Charis Pitcairn Cole, of Bryn Athyn, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Luther Park Assisted Living in Hatboro. She was 94 years old.
A lifelong resident of Bryn Athyn, Charis was the daughter of the late Harold Frederick and Clara Pitcairn. Her father was an American aviation inventor and pioneer and the inventor of the autogiro, the precursor to the modern helicopter.
Charis was a member of the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and a deeply religious woman. She enjoyed sailing, hiking, and was passionate in her love of dogs. She always owned a terrier...

Charis Pitcairn Cole, of Bryn Athyn, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Luther Park Assisted Living in Hatboro. She was 94 years old.
A lifelong resident of Bryn Athyn, Charis was the daughter of the late Harold Frederick and Clara Pitcairn. Her father was an American aviation inventor and pioneer and the inventor of the autogiro, the precursor to the modern helicopter.
Charis was a member of the Bryn Athyn Cathedral and a deeply religious woman. She enjoyed sailing, hiking, and was passionate in her love of dogs. She always owned a terrier throughout her life.
Charis was pre-deceased by her husband, Louis S. Cole Jr., her daughter, Jessica Cole and her son Luke Cole. She is survived by her eight children; Lachlin (Jessica), James (Anna), Clara Huntzinger (Steve), Russell, Matthew, Quentin (Mary), Madeleine Nehlig (Andrew) and Edward, her thirty four grandchildren, her eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Judy Rhodes.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 4pm at the Bryn Athyn Cathedral, 900 Cathedral Road, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. Services are under the direction of Wm. Rowen Grant Funeral Home, Southampton, PA.
